06 - 02 - 2015

tella, world’s first solar powered family car from Solar Team Eindhoven wins the “Best Technology Achievement”. Stella was competing with the big guys Apple Pay, The blockchain (Bitcoin), SpaceX lateral booster and Rosetta’s comet landing. The Crunchies, or ‘Oscars for technology’ are held every year. Solar Team Eindhoven is an initiative of 21 students from the Eindhoven University of Technology. Solar Team Eindhoven, the team that designed and built this car was surprised by the nomination for this prestigious award.

Team manager Lex Hoefsloot was very glas with the price “You always hope for it, but to be honest I did not expect to win. We were competing with very big names.” The price was awarded in Sillicon Valley, the pumping heart of the technology-industry in the United States, by one of the largest technology websites in the world.

“The price is a huge recognition” said Lex Hoefsloot. “This shows that they also think that this is the future in the Unites States”. We think that it is possible to have the first solar car in a couple of years in the streets that you can buy.

With Stella the students from the Eindhoven University of Technology already won the World Solar Challenge cruiser-class. The car scored the most points in the overall score, which is determined by time, external energy, practicallity and the occupants.
